Q has a group (Engineers & Attorneys) dedicated to searching for patents to buy from companies that will enhance their existing portfolio and prevent BRCM type law suits. Q has an army of Attorneys under QTL. The costs to manage patents isn't cheap. The costs all add up, but I'm sure there is fat to cut to bring up margins.
