When speculators short QCOM, they are reducing volatility.
You are absolutely drinking the Kool-Aid of the Hedge Funds/BOT SEC.
Shorting stocks provides liquidity only to option market makers, PERIOD!!!! They are allowed to Naked Short Sell as a legitimate hedge. BS. Do you understand that these option market makers can loan/sell their postition/seat on a daily and hourly basis ? I didn't think so. Naked shorting is illegal.Do you understand that? I didn't think so. After the start of the 08 meltdown US regulators made naked short selling illegal. Geez it has always been illegal now it is "Really Really Illegal". Give me a break. Stocks go down at 2X-5X the velocity of stocks going up. Shorting stocks only allows for more stock(supply) being for sale then investors(longs) are selling. The SEC is asleep under their heavily laden dollar mattress and pink pillow set. Reinstate the uptick rule, disallow the market maker exemption and hold the finacial press accountable to the same standards as brokerage firm analysts,no short friendly headlines that are factually inaccurate.
