Got any idea how many pension plans are in dire straits--- suffering huge losses and with less prospect of earning “normal” returns in the future due to real investors abandoning the market / stricter regulation & higher taxes limiting returns?>> Jim- Surely you don't put all the blame on "speculators" rather than the US Government with their CRA and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and Barney Franks, Chris Dodds, Soros,etc. and the major banks. When you buy QCOM you are a speculator. When you sell QCOM you are an ex speculator.
