Michael, GM, the ORB would make one thing clear: put an effective nail in Syquest's sparky for certain; the Orb representing greater speed and higher capacity would obsolete sparky immediately. one positive aspect about buckingham's reversal is that IOM won't need to work as hard to jump the estimate hoop with lowered expectations. when IOM does make the estimates, it may look brighter.

when IOM does introduce their own sparky or Orb (which i hope is soon as this may make the market nervous all these new competitors - its obviously made buckingham nervous) it will be as competitive if not more so than sparky or Orb. it is possible that IOM's versiion will be based on Samsung's new SpinPoint drive which is MR.

i spoke with several platter makers the past week regarding their involvement with nhand, if any, and nearly all of them have indicated a knowledge of the product and all stated "we have the capability to produce platters for the product..."

the cost of zip will obviously drop for OEMs, but the usage will increase as the cost of media will also decrease. the sale/cost mixture will still sustain earnings for IOM especially if nhand is the success we think it will be
