JR: A US ISP begins ADSL trial in Chicago. This trial was announced prior to the Ameritech trial and here is a specific quote that implies that the ISP can also put a lot of pressure on the Telcos to act ""It certainly seems like InterAccess has pulled an end run around Ameritech," said Kieran Taylor, a leading ADSL analyst with TeleChoice Inc., a Verona, N.J., consultancy. Taylor said Ameritech is leasing the copper links at $7 each in downtown Chicago and $22 each in outlying areas, giving InterAccess "plenty of room to make money" while offering the much faster Internet service."
