After hearing decades of that reason from Republicans, you're now saying that it's not true?? You realize that Republicans aren't all clones of each other with all the same opinions, right? That's true even at any specific time, but its esp. true over a long period of time like what you describe. Many Republicans (including Republican presidents, for example Nixon) bought the full unmitigated, Keynesian, government can fix recessions through spending idea. I haven't changed on this issue, beyond becoming more knowledgeable about it. 20 years ago I wouldn't have expressed any very specific opinion about it.
