Sub $1000 market no problem for Intel

Why?
Listening to the Q&A, they said the average system price remained around $2000.

Top 10 list from the analysts meeting.

10-There is "no conclusive data that sub-$1000 PC's is an expanding market".
9- They are sticking with their 18% estimate of annual PC growth for next year.
8- They anticipated the inventory backup.
7- The Asian collapse isn't significant because they are selling chips in China and Taiwan markets.
6- There is "no change of Intel's outlook on SE Asia" because once these economies recover they will buy more Intel chips.
5- The slowdown in Japan is because of a lack of consumer rather than business buying.
4- There is no change in Intel's ability to sell the product.
3- October was anticipated in their forcast of margins flat revenue slightly up.
2- Their global forecasts of 1998 sales of 20 million more microprocessor units up 25% from this year are based on continuous growth world wide
1- Asked about unit growth past the current quarter Andy Grove said "no one knows".

Conclusion: They don't know what's happening to them because noone can control or anticipate the consequence of a global financial meltdown.

As someone that survived the Depression once told me. One day everybody was working and the next day everybody was sent home.
