Yes, I couldn't believe the first time I read we are a net importer of food.

I think by dollars, but not by weight or calories. We export wheat and corn, I think our imports might be of more expensive foods. Vegetables and fruits tend to cost more per pound than grains. I'm not sure of our net trade balance on meat.
