Larry, a lot of people thought Bre-X had an orebody, likely all except those few who salted it and ran the scam. I was more or less among them, even after the Freeport assays, I gave it an 80/20 probability, as I recall, in one post, and held the paper waiting for the fat lady's song. Still hold the paper -g-. And therein lies a lesson. You know, Diane Francis says in her book that 10% of all trading on the TSE in 1996 was in Bre-X shares. Lotta people believed.
EC gets a lot right. NPA and PFG, two notable cases famous here. Now he's going for three out of three, and time will tell whether he ends up with a .666 or 1.000.
Like Munch says, the EC of SI and the EC of the newsletter are two different critters. Although the intelligence, the knowledge, and the humour shine through both, there's a more relaxed, calm manner in the newsletter, probably imho because he doesn't feel surrounded by hostiles.
Would I feel hostile if he was questioning my investment judgement? Oh yeah. But I would search that hilarious pattern of shot for pellets of gold, just in case this was one more time he was bang-on. Hope I would, anyway.
