Your post reminds me of my first social work job. There had been low income housing built for blacks in Orange NJ.

The premises was wrecked.. My supervisor said you cannot transplant persons into new situations without having them have a learning experience. One does not pee in the halls. one does not deface the building. They needed to be taught...
and no one thought ahead to solve this problem. So the buildings were defaced and the inherent race problem exacerbated. This was in the fifties...

I agree with your suggestions. The job corps and other projects during the recession of the thirties did a lot to educate people to take new jobs. Today most schools are so expensive that the poor don't believe that they can take course. And yet the community college here offer course that
are life changing for very little money.

So little knowledge of what is available to them and
so few persons to care.

I wish that I were not the age I am as I am still full of energy and would love to teach English as a second language
Help the elderly with how to work with Medicare etc..
Act as a representative on their behalf. I would even like to teach basic Yoga... Part of my problem, I am only six months in one place and then gone... It hinders my taking a job
in either place as I cannot give it the time nor the attention that it deserves.
