Post Civil War was (obviously!) a period of great growth for America.

After all --- for most of the "investing world" (i.e. "Europe") --- we were the "Emerging Markets" of the Nineteenth Century.

However, (again: post Civil War / pre-WW I), the American economy did exhibit one very worrisome tendency towards rapid cyclical recurrence of Boom/Bubble/Financial Panic/Bust cycles.
