the trillions in minerals are less of a US /NATO problem and has more to do with the locals who already count the money and jokey for power in the most nasty inhumane way.

If humanity would be at the Roman times level then there is no problem they solved such situation in Spain - mined the riches and killed all the people and took possession of the spoils.

People must understand that war is a horrible thing and not a military exercise of proving military might and power.

Desert Storm was not a finished war, nothing was decisive at the end, and until this day people continue to suffer being maimed or killed by the warring ethnic fractions.

The US and its allies forgot how to fight a war eliminate the people who fought you totally and do not stop just because their army was destroyed but the leadership still had sway over the population – with time there was a need of another war which ended the same way like Desert Storm and thousands of American soldiers and tens of thousands of innocent people paid for the mistakes of the US Generals and their political masters. Same in Afghanistan it is a repeat of the mistakes in Iraq or the Israelis in the ME region.

Alexander the Great was unable to retain his rein on the empire he build by being to human for his times. The Ottoman Empire or Genghis Han build an Empire not on mercy but on unheard of cruelty.

Russia defeated Napoleon not by forcing him to retreat but by destroying his army and his allies, conquer some of them and having Napoleon ending his life as he did.

People do not get it the wars fought now are very asymmetrical and the "human" factor is a great impediment. If a nation does not have the guts to fight a war as it should be fought, then why start one, after all the suffering will be the same.

I do not advocate war and all must be done to avoid it but sometimes there is no choice and then the nation must swallow a very bitter pill close their eyes and go to war as it should be. Cut off the TV and radio networks from reporting the atrocities because that is part of the war and lessen the trauma on the general population make the war short and decisive and eliminate all the warring elements of the enemy.

WWII went on and at the end there was a decisive result because the TV networks where not there, did not report the destruction suffering and cruelty which murdered or maimed many millions of innocent people in real time all was censured and retro respect it was the right thing to do.

WWII was an extremely horrible war but one should thing what where the alternatives, where there any other choices?

War by definition is a horrible thing and scores of innocent people die or are maimed for life but war should be decisive and cruel otherwise the same results in human suffering will evolve with no decisive results and the pain will be amplified even more.

People that live by norms of over 1000 years ago can not brought to conduct themselves as a modern society it just does not work therefore in those areas war should be fought like they were 1,000 years ago finding a decisive result and associated victory. War is not for education - war is a horrible way of destruction leaving scorched earth behind.

May be people need to readjust their moral compasses and understand that war is not your local police force chasing criminal it is the ultimate act of total and complete destruction.

It was proven in WWII until German cities where not brought to total ruin and the leadership wiped out the war was going on even that it was clear who those claiming victory where.

Japan was no different, sadly they brought so much destruction and suffering on themselves by not acknowledging defeat - there where Japanese soldiers that continue fighting even when the war was over.

So what is to expect form tribes living less than in the middle ages? to understand civility or human rights? After all they understand only one language and that is the "power of the sword" because that what they learn from a fragile age.

One step forward in Iraq or Afghanistan would be the elimination of the Islamist teaching and the various madrassas who generate more and more people for whom the living has little meaning and martyrdom is a admired way of ending one’s life together with scores of other innocent people. Anyone that resist this restriction should be summarily executed inhuman but are there other solution?
