Jim, In speaking about technology I was limiting my scope to computer networking :-) HFT or any algorithmic trading can be good - if I am a broker trying to make money for my clients. The problem comes from some brokers using it simply to be market makers gaming the system for themselves. I am making no excuse for the dark side - just that the people I know who were involved in developing this technology were not evil and had good intentions. To steal a line from the NRA - servers and algorithms don't bankrupt people - people bankrupt people. If there was justice they would be prosecuted and go to jail. But for the record - radio was and is used by the military and was extensively used by the Germans in WW1 and the Nazi's in WW2. Cell phones are used to trigger car bombs - are all cell phones bad?
