BEDFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Acme Packet® (Nasdaq: APKT - News), the leader in session border control solutions, today announced that China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; HK STOCK:00941.HK), the largest service provider in the world with over 554 million fixed line and mobile subscribers, has selected Acme Packet for its IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) project. Acme Packet Net-Net® session border controllers (SBCs) are used at China Mobile’s fixed access borders to enable the secure, high-quality delivery of IP Centrex and hosted voice services to residential and business subscribers.

China Mobile is deploying Acme Packet’s Net-Net session border controllers in multiple cities across five provinces throughout China as part of an initial deployment of IMS. China Mobile has a multi-year plan to build its IMS network and migrate all fixed and mobile communications services to this next-generation architecture. Acme Packet SBCs have also been deployed to support multiple services on its pre-IMS NGN including IP Centrex, Multimedia Telephony (MMTel), multimedia ring-back tones, multimedia conferencing and click-to-call services in Shanxi province.

“China Mobile is leading the IMS charge in order to deliver innovative IP interactive communications to the largest subscriber base in the world,” said Seamus Hourihan, Acme Packet’s executive vice president of marketing and product management. “With extensive functionality stemming from our IMS experience and product leadership, Acme Packet SBCs provide China Mobile with the requisite service delivery features and help deliver cost savings and increased revenue opportunities.”

Acme Packet SBCs provide critical security and SIP session control features for China Mobile’s IMS network. Acme Packet’s Net-SAFE® security framework provides protection against denial of service/distributed denial of service (DoS/DDoS) attacks and overloads, while topology hiding and access control lists keep unauthorized and malicious traffic from disrupting service availability.

Acme Packet’s SBCs further enable China Mobile to maximize its service reach and accelerate time to market with field-proven interoperability with VoIP and IMS products from multiple vendors and protocol normalization and IP address management features that can solve many interoperability issues. Policy-based routing and load balancing functions of the Net-Net SBCs optimize China Mobile’s network, helping lower ongoing operational costs. At the access border, Acme Packet SBCs generate call detail records for key performance indicators to aide in management and operations.
