Subsidiary Receives First Order for Anit Jamming Radio: Subsidiary Receives First Order for Anit-Jamming Radio

Dugald Buchanan, President and CEO announces that Calian Technology LTD's wholly-owned subsidiary SED
Systems Inc., has been awarded a contract by Thomson-CSF Systems Canada Inc. of Ottawa to supply fourteen
Adaptive Digital Beamforming Receiving Systems (ADBRS) for deployment in Canada's North. The equipment will
be installed in the High Frequency Beyond Line of Sight Ground Entry Radio Stations being provided by
Thomson-CSF to the Department of National Defence as part of the North American Air Defence Modernization
Program. The Ground Entry Stations will relay voice and data communications between NORAD Regional
Headquarters in North Bay, Ontario and military ships and aircraft operating in the Arctic.

The ADBRS uses a computer-controlled antenna array and high-speed digital processing to extract communications
signals from noisy radio frequency environments caused by electrical storms or enemy jamming. The ADBRS was
developed by SED Systems from basic research originally done by Canadian Government scientists at the
Communications Research Centre in Ottawa and licensed to SED in 1995. The device is the only operating system
of its kind in the world and has been demonstrated to work effectively when the noise is as much as 100,000 times
more powerful than the signal.

SED expects strong world demand for ADBRS equipment and is actively marketing the product in Australia, the
Middle East and several NATO countries. Says Dugald Buchanan, President and CEO of SED, "We are very
optimistic about the export potential of this world-leading Canadian technology. This first order by Thomson-CSF
for deployment in Canada's new defence communication system can only enhance our immediate prospects for
overseas sales."

Norman Smyth, President of Thomson-CSF Systems Canada says "We are pleased to be able to incorporate
Canadian ADBRS technology in our project. SED offered an unbeatable combination of Canadian content,
impressive performance and low risk."

Calian Technology sells technology services to industry and government world-wide.

Thomson-CSF Systems Canada is a Canadian systems integration company which develops Command, Control and
Communications and Countermine systems. The company is a subsidiary of Thomson-CSF, the world's third
largest defence/electronics company.
