As an example of the power of natural forces to maintain equilibrium in the face of extreme environmental disruptions/catastrophes, I offer this analysis of the BP oil spill:

Nearly 75% of BP Spill Oil Is Gone From Gulf: Scientists

cnbc.com

I was advocating the augmentation of oil eating microbes back in May, oxygenating the water around the well-head, if necessary.

Apparently it wasn't as there were sufficient oil eating microbes and oxygen, available to consume the majority of the escaping hydrocarbons.

It's just a shame that these same scientists can't understand the power of phytoplankton in controlling atmospheric CO2 levels, as well as restoring the foundation of the marine food chain.
