MS noted that inventory growth as well, but Chang says it is still below normal seasonal levels. Unless, of course, this is the "new normal."

Speaking at a recent company investors conference, TSMC CEO and chairman Morris Chang remarked that inventory levels of its fabless and IDM customers "have increased at a rate close to the increase in sales."

"We estimate that supply chain inventories in aggregate were still below seasonal levels at the end of second quarter, and in fact will still be below seasonal levels at the end of third quarter," said Chang. Chang noted that inventory levels and DOI will reach close to seasonal levels by the fourth quarter.
