Interesting. Haven't heard much about the flash crash on the daily news since a couple days after, when it was considered "old news" to the network news "day traders" and there was nothing more to wildly speculate about ;o)

I thought they found a strong link to some structural deficiencies in the way the markets deal with (or don't deal with) high volumes of ETF trades. Weren't 70% (or there 'bouts) of the most volatile trades in ETF's?

(note: ETF = Exchange Traded Fund)

(I don't have a WSJ subscription so I couldn't read the whole article. Maybe there was mention of the current thinking on the impact of ETFs)

Speaking of ETF's, and tying the discussion to technology, ETF's have really reached the gimmick stage (arguably, a measure of success) when there are new registrations for ETF's covering the "smart phone market"
