What if......

Obama really isn't enemy of the USA?

I know, I know...crazy talk, but.....

If I were president here is what my energy policy would be:

1. Cut back on coal use as much as possible.
2. Cut back on domestic oil use as much as possible.
3. Buy as much oil from the middle east and venezuela as possible

I know, you are saying WTF Jorj, are you nuts?

Here is my logic:
Coal - China has about 50 years of coal at current burn rates.
Oil - Saudi Arabia has about 60 years worth of oil reserves at current consumption rates.

The USA has about 300 years worth of coal reserves

If the US got cut off from from foreign oil sources, we would have only about 5 years worth of oil reserves.

Coal - The economic powerhouse of China is going to come to a screeching halt very quickly. They are trying to bring 300,000,000 chinese who are living an agrarian existence into modern society by 2020. That is a population that is equal to the US. China already consumes three times as much coal as the US. In reality they probably only have about 30 years of coal reserves. Again, we have 300 years of coal reserves.

Oil - 60 years of oil reserves is not that much. 5 years of oil reserves is even less. Right now the US produces about 6M barrels of oil per day. If we shifted those 6M barrels to saudi arabia, their oil reserves drop to 40 years supply. And with China having an every increasing modern population, their consumption will skyrocket as well.

The sooner that saudi arabia runs out of oil, the sooner we cut off the lifeblood of the muslim extremists. But in the meantime, we let them power our growth.

And where China is an economic powerhouse, their money machine will come to a grinding halt without coal. And we will have plenty to keep our homes and industry running for many generations.

But if our government says "hey, we want to buy a bunch of oil from you guys in Saudi Arabia so that we can deplete your supplies and bankrupt you", they are going to say...."sorry mofo, we don't like your plan....oil is now at $150/barrel...choke on it yankee bastards". However, if our approach is "we are going to cut back on fossil fuel use because we love our environment and carbon is evil", they are left with the response of "hey, ummm....we can make oil really cheap...just keep on buying oil....please". For this to work, the package has to be wrapped in a pretty green bow.

We have to have the same message with coal or our oil message doesn't resonate as sincere. Meanwhile our coal usage will remain in the same trend. And, we have more fuel efficient cars and solar and wind power where we can use it. And, electric vehicles are basically coal power cars. Again, a resource that we have an abundance of.

If the USA plays its cards right, it has the chance to be back on top of the world economic heap in 20-30 years. But someone like GWB couldn't pull it off because nobody would believe that he is coming from a green angle. This strategy would require a lot of subterfuge.

What Obama is doing right now is actually exactly what we need to be doing for a long term strategic energy policy. But the reasons he states are all wrong. And if he is truly the anti-american big government narcissist that he seems, it could ruin this country if we can't shift gears when the mideast and china start to decline.

where is my logic flawed in this?

arno, am I nuts? Are my numbers wrong?

wouldn't it be a trip if Obama and Gore were truly patriots who were willing to have themselves vilified in the annals of history for the sake of the greater good?

Of course, this doesn't explain Rev Wright, Van Jones and the rest of the marxists that he has surrounded himself with.
