I have owned IDX for 9+ yrs. They have positive news today replacing AFIS products through NEC ( more likely to happen in the future) . IDX is down and AFIS is up.
What am I missing about IDX? Why are the big boys avoiding this company (which I say has unbelivable potential) ?
Is there other long long long term investors feeling the same way as me. I'm starting to think I'm beating a dead horse with so much competition heating up.
My gut feeling for many years is that biometrics will be a huge pie but will IDX only have a sliver of a piece.

ANAHEIM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 4, 1997--Printrak
International Inc. (NASDAQ:AFIS) presented its strategy and vision
of a worldwide networked law enforcement system to customers at the
19th Annual Users' Conference held in Anaheim earlier this month.
The company is one of the world's leading providers of automated
fingerprint identification systems (AFIS), mugshot systems,
computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems, and record management systems
(RMS).
The Printrak Users' Group is comprised of hundreds of officials
representing a diverse group of U.S. and international government
agencies which utilize Printrak's leading edge technology and
products. Nearly 300 officials and administrators from around the
world attended the five-day conference, titled "AFIS -- The World
Wide Web."
The event featured over 30 sessions designed to educate and
inform customers on the latest technology solutions offered by
Printrak. Keynote speaker Don Pearson, publisher of Government
Technology, highlighted the explosion of new technology developments
and the growing need to connect systems around the world in order to
leverage these advances to their fullest potential.
According to Users' Group Chairperson Pete Schroedter, "The
real value of the conference is to provide a forum to bring key
members of the global law enforcement community together to exchange
ideas and gain insights into new technologies which allow us to more
effectively serve the public." Schroedter is AFIS manager of the
Harris County Sheriff's Department in Houston.
"We're pleased to see the number of attendees increase each and
every year. More and more agencies around the world are embracing
technology for the betterment of society and this is best
represented by the Printrak Users' Group which continues to grow
stronger each year," said Richard Giles, president and chief
executive officer.
"As demonstrated by the impressive array of new products and
technologies at this year's conference, Printrak is committed to
supporting these users. We're investing heavily in people and ideas
for the continued development of the art and science of digital
justice solutions."
A major focus of the conference was the interactive, hands-on
demonstration of Printrak's unique end-to-end "digital justice
solution," including industry-leading software and hardware which
enable computer-aided dispatch, automated fingerprint
identification, mugshot/photo imaging, records management, document
imaging, computerized criminal history and jail management systems.

I have been in this stock for five years, and have seen alot of hype over the last couple of years. It's always coming soon , then comes the let down, then the hype about the next time. The big investors do not like stocks that trade at 200 +- times earnings. How about the guy with all the info all the time who decided to bury his head in the sand for the next three months. I would too if I would of made all those calls, pretty embarrassing.

entification System for the State of Indiana

ÿÿÿÿBusiness/Technology Editors

ÿÿÿÿWASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 5, 1997--

ÿÿÿÿThe Indiana State Police and The Indiana Department of Corrections
ÿÿÿÿImplement NEC Biometric System to Identify, Apprehend Criminals

ÿÿÿÿNEC Technologies, a pioneer and world leader in the development, marketing and implementation of Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) technology for law enforcement, today announced a $3 million contract with the Indiana State Police and Indiana Department of Corrections (DOC). The NEC AFIS21 system replaces the state's current Printrak International AFIS system in order to provide the most advanced fingerprint technology to
identify and apprehend criminals.
ÿÿÿÿ"NEC is very pleased to be working with the state of Indiana in implementing the latest AFIS technology into their criminal justice system," said Bill Wells, vice president of NEC Technologies' AFIS Division. "With the NEC AFIS21 system, the state of Indiana will have the most accurate and cost-effective AFIS available today to ensure the highest level of criminal identification."
ÿÿÿÿIndiana's NEC AFIS21 system will streamline record keeping, increase efficiency and improve crime fighting by ensuring accurate offender processing to the proper DOC inmate records, identifying subjects referenced in criminal records and comparing crime scene fingerprints of unknown origin with identified fingerprints in file. The system features Automatic Classification and Pre-Selection (AC/PS), the first fully automated workflow process that
executes fingerprint matching and registration without human intervention. AC/PS automatically narrows searches based on distinct demographic and fingerprint characteristics, saving valuable time while increasing identification accuracy.
ÿÿÿÿThe NEC AFIS21 system will include a central database at the Indiana State Police Records Division serving as the central repository for arrest, disposition and custody/supervision data. More than 2 million tenprint and latent fingerprint images will be classified and stored electronically with their associated demographic data, such as crime code and criminal record. The database will be accessed throughout the state from remote sites that
include four latent sites, nine live scan locations and three Department of Corrections mug shot/live scan locations.

NEC Technologies' AFIS and AISG Divisions

ÿÿÿÿNEC is recognized as the industry leader in Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems, latent identifications and large (greater than one million records) networked AFISs. Based in Washington, D.C., NEC Technologies' AFIS Division markets AFIS products for law enforcement and jail management. The AISG Division markets commercial finger imaging products for vertical markets, including healthcare, social welfare services, access control,
immigration and motor. The company installed its first law enforcement AFIS in North America at the San Francisco Police Department in 1983, and its first healthcare HealthID system in LaPorte Hospital, Indiana, in 1995. The more than 50 NEC AFIS systems installed worldwide contain fingerprints on more than 50 million subjects. These systems have solved more crimes using latent prints than all other AFIS systems in the world combined. Information
about NEC's AFIS products can be found on the Web at nec.com or by contacting Chris Warner, director of marketing for NEC AFIS at 888-AFIS-NEC.

Must admit that I share your sentiments with the lack of performance over the years. Like you , I've ben in IDX for awhile , 5yrs. I've recently come over from prodigy where there are a few very informed idx'rs , namely kathy k , geroge b & geroge h. They apparently are still bullish as many are here also. However , my patience is wearing thin with this dead money as I see other opportunities passing this money up! Perhaps this reassment means it's
finnaly time for IDX to perform as we have been so patiently waiting for , but then again how many times in the past have we all felt this way. I lurk over on SI , will join soon , and do appreciate their endeavors , however are they not frustrated also? Hope idxforever sends this post over to SI for bg and the rest to expound upon and hopefully to rationalize as to why we should continue to tie up this money.I know , long term investor
etc,etc...but when will this thing happen?????? Guess I'm a tad frustrated today.

All for Identix stand up and HOLLER!!!

Since there are more cheerleaders and pom-pom girls on this (& SI?) board than analysts I thought I should speak their language. Wake up, the coffee's brewing.
By the way, where is that old IDX seer named OSTRICH770??? Don't say he's moving into a new "computer room" this winter and will return next February. It must be chilly by now in that wilderness pup tent he's waiting in. When/if he returns it might be under screen name 1970GEO.

Was it a product of IDX? Back about a year ago there was a post that IDX had patented a mouse with fingerprint ID. capabilities. Haven't heard anything since, but read articles occasionally about PC security.
It would be great if they could standardize credit and smart cards soon. Every card now has a pin. I don't call my house often enough to remember my phone number. No chance on the pins. And all we hear is we are the leader in everything in the world. Identix holds the answer. Now if they can convince the world to adopt their system.

I will be checking in from time to time at work when I get a chance.....since I will be here more than usual. Do not think that just because I have signed off at home, that I will not be keeping a eye on the board. I will try to post periodically....if anything important needs to be addressed. I do not plan to let the shorts run wild!
Be wary of those who continue to post news from supposed competitors....new scanners and such....No other company is nipping at IDX's heels......I will be the first one to let you know if this ever happens.
Keep the faith,
I see no Geo's in my future,
