By comparing, a L2 cacheless Pentium II 266Mhz might be just as fast as Gateway 2000 PMMX-200Mhz if GTW does not eliminate the 512K L2 cache. After shrunk to .25u, Intel will have a tinny die size on PII. In order to move the whole market to SLOT 1/2 or S**T 1, the cache free PII for sub-$1,000 market makes sense.
