Doesn't spending money at your local store do more good for the total economy than putting the same amount of money into the stock market? No. Without capital (money into the stock market) the great companies wouldn't exist, we'd be in a feudal system. No one is talking about taking away all money from the stock market. The Bush tax cut question is just raising the rate on long term gains from 15% to 20%. Markets will survive that.
