Inventory is irrelevent to the long-term investor.

I haven't seen anyone analyze the trade-off between the fall-off in margins from PCs (under $1000 or not) vs. the profit opportunities in workstations (Deschutes) and portables (Tillamook).

An interesting point from the conference was that Intel's market share is just as high in $900-1000 PCs as it is in more expensive machines. They also confirmed my suspicion that first-time buyers go for the big name - Intel, and the middle of the line machines.

Intel's problems are with established users who know you don't need the most expensive processor and the related under-$900 market.
