Hi, Judy. I've been hearing a lot about oil industry support stocks lately so I wandered over here to see what's going on. About two weeks ago there was a fellow on NBR who keeps track of insider trading. FWIW, as best I recall he mentioned that insiders had been selling the oil service stocks (ala semi-equips a little earlier), but buying the exploration/production companies.

As of Friday I've finally got my IRA rollover, so I'm assembling a list of stocks on which to put in lowball GTC bids. I'll probably include a major oil and a driller.

Regarding shorting stocks from an IRA: Bonnie Bear has been promoting the use of the Rydex Ursa Fund (RYURX) to short the S&P500. (I assume this is available from an IRA). It uses options and futures to achieve a mirror image performance to the S&P500. Of course the main disadvantage of a mutual fund is that you can only get in and out at the closing price of the day. Here is a chart showing the comparison to the underlying index: stockmaster.com
