GM posts second-quarter profit of $1.3 billion

By Christopher Hinton

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- General Motors Co. said Thursday its second-quarter earnings were $1.3 billion, or $2.55 a share. Revenue was $33.2 billion. GM emerged from bankruptcy on July 10, 2009, and is preparing for an initial-public offering later this year. The quarter ended June 30 was the auto maker's second consecutive period of profit. Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported GM had secured a $5 billion credit facility, which should help the company offload some of the U.S. Treasury's $50 billion stake in the company.
