John - glad to see you in this stock. I never understand the stock valuation "game". Some companies with loss or negligible revenue such as Yahoo, Lycos, Amazon.com, OnSale, CNet, AOL, etc. are valued based on future revenue, while other companies such as Sandisk are valued based on current revenue. But I look at the charts of those high valuation companies and the stocks seem to be flat for several months and all a sudden, somebody "discovered" the stock and it took off. It's all possible that it can happen with Sandisk some day on a moment notice when it gets heavy promotion and momentum players move in. If this happen with Sandisk, it will be a better case for hype because Sandisk's future is warrantied thanks to the patents, standard, and licensing while the future of the other hot companies (Yahoo, Amazon.com, ...) is doubtful because of competition.
I just take a look at the Sunday paper and a major camera store in my area has a one page ad. It's all about digital camera and digital camcorder, and seminars to process digital pictures and create web site, nothing mentioned about the traditional 35mm camera. One camera from Panasonic fits inside the pocket. We will know this Xmas how sales go. |
