Fiat currencies are nothing more than a con game. I can picture a mobster running the same scam in Philadelphia with lottery tickets. Tell people you are only issuing 100 tickets and that you have a 1:100 chance to win a 30 ft. sailboat! Hey sell me a ticket. Then the con artist sells 10,000 tickets afterwards. The Govt ran this con with dollar backed gold, then sold so much more paper than actual gold to back it...the result, people are hoarding gold, you have to give us your gold at our price. So they did. Then the Govt ran the same scam to foreign investors by redeeming their dollars for Gold then the Govt reneged on that in the 70's...that default resulted in really high inflation here in the U.S. that is typically blamed on other things like oil. Well guess what, after they devalued the dollar, oil was EXPENSIVE.
