I believe you have either misread the statistical analysis of modern history --- or else you are simply trying to slip away to some completely different definition for what is 'good' and what is 'bad'.

Something that you haven't bothered to DEFINE yet, so there is no way to discuss it yet.

I was careful to write that the SINGLE METRIC of government effectiveness that I was talking about was the relative degree of achieving fiscally BALANCED BUDGETS.

Divided government has certainly proven to be the most effective variety of American governance at CONTROLLING FEDERAL DEFICITS!

At least... it has laid down that track record in the 'modern era', i.e. post WW II., but most especially since the 'seventies.

And of all the possible permutations of divided government, the one that seems (from the history) to be the best of the best at controlling deficits is with the GOP running Congress and a Democrat in the WH....

(But, that is a tenuous conclusion to make... there is much stronger historical evidence to suggest what the WORST COMBINATIONS ARE. And, drum roll pls, the absolute *worst record* is posted by the combination of GOP control of the Executive and GOP control of the Congress, while the second worst record is posted by Democrat control of the Executive and the Congress.)

Clearly though, at least in the modern era, gridlock has it's benefits.
