5 acres is only 200x100 meter. If this area includes a building of some sort, it would definitely be a violation to put up a tent there in Sweden.
Sweden is a vast area. A drive from the north to the south is 2000km, similar to the distance between New York city and Miami, or from Copenhagen to Rome, and they have 8 million inhabitants, a common culture and a single language. The southern-most point of Sweden is north of the southern-most point in Alaska, and it goes approximately just as far up to the north as Alaska.
You don't have to go far away from a large city to be many km or miles away from the nearest building. It is a wonderful place, where you can be in the middle of nowhere, with absolutely no chance of meeting people, and the only thing that makes you think that there is a modern civilization anywhere, is that your mobile phone shows 3G coverage almost anywhere, it is much better than on Manhattan in New York.
It is normally virtually impossible to see the borders between properties in this open space, and it is virtually impossible to find out who owns it. It is a country where people care about each other and would do quite a lot to help strangers in trouble. Anybody who has tried to be far away from civilization and in trouble, appreciates this kind of help. I once got stuck with my car myself on a tiny Swedish forest road, and appreciated the help from a local Swede who pulled me free, a lot. I have no clue who he was, where he came from or where he went. But any law or rule that would impose a liability/insurance/economic problem on either party in such an incident where one person gives help to a stranger, would be disliked by almost everyone. |
