But that's not a matter of pride. We might as well be proud that we were born. We didn't actually do anything to be born. We had no idea we would be and had no volitional part in the process [other than autonomic responses]. Pride can reasonably start when intelligent effort is applied to things and success is gained. But inheriting genes is not something to be proud of. As TJ explained, Nigerians have inherited perfectly fine genes which have done precisely as well as any other genes in getting from a billion years ago to now. Inheriting genes is like a river running downhill. It's just what genes do - unzip, zip up, cut and splice, mix and match. I'm no more proud of my haemoglobin attaching to oxygen. That's just an automatic piece of chemistry involving no achievement at all. Nearly everything our bodies do is just fully automatic requiring no training or other mindful intervention. I don't think, "Hmmm, I'd better invent some T lymphocytes to go do battle with that bug I detect breaching the firewall". They just do it themselves. You racists who think races should be proud are very dangerous. Pretty soon one race starts thinking they should take over from another race and the other is thinking the same and all Hell breaks loose. Each living thing alive as the sun rises today has had equally successful ancestry, though some might be looking as though their genes are on a losing wicket. But until they actually fail, they are in the hunt. Mqurice
