Thanks for the thoughtful questions. As to why use SPY instead of options. I don't have an option account as I think I would be too dangerous with one. I'm dangerous enough with a regular account (dangerous to my own health I mean). I hadn't really considered the dividend problem too much. I really don't plan on holding SPY short for too long. Karl
