According to the news on August 6,

Apple Inc. shows interest in acquiring Handseeing Information Technology Co., Ltd. located in Chengdu, China, and the two companies are now making further negotiations on related acquisition affairs.

As Tian Bo, deputy general manager of Handseeing, told the reporter, Apple does have a mind to acquire Handseeing and the two are now discussing related affairs including the acquisition conditions and price. In case of successful acquisition, it will be Apple's first-ever acquisition in China. With respect to the rumor that the acquisition price will reach up to 150 million US dollars or so, Tian expressed that the price is among the two companies' key discussion points and is still not confirmed.

As a technician in Handseeing disclosed, Apple's interest in acquiring Handseeing may be caused by: 1) its upcoming "Game Center" (Cooperating with an excellent Chinese game company can help Apple better expand such business and service in China); 2) its wish to improve the game development and operation power (Acquiring Handseeing can greatly improve the game development and operation power of Apple, which lacks experience in the online game industry, within a short time).

Tian said that the acquisition-related negotiation between the two companies would end before September. Not only Apple but also several other big international companies want to acquire or establish a commercially cooperative relationship with Handseeing.

If the info is not a rumor but a reality, it in some degrees shows that Apple is interested in designing its own games for its products like iPhone and iPad in the local market. Last November, AppleInsider disclosed that Apple had planned to employ an outstanding game developer. Apple has only launched a game called "Texas Hold'em" in iPhone's App Store so far. Priced at 4.99 US dollars, the game was released in 2008.

Games are one of the most popular 3rd-party applications of iPhone, iPod touch and iPad at present. To fully promote the application, Apple will push out a new service called "Game Center", where users can see which games their friends are playing and play with their friends online, or compare their scores with others'.

Apple's concentration on strengthening the game service became the industry's focus this April. At that time, Apple employed a game editor for App Store, who is now responsible for the selection and organization of the game content, as one of the Apple team members.
