In WWII that was understandable, we faced essentially total war against major powers. It was also temporary.

A one off, like TARP and the stimulus. Of course before you said government spending is never temporary; it always sticks.

BTW when you calculate spending do you deduct the repayment/profit of TARP funds?

Now we don't have anything like that level of crisis...

We were on the verge of a 2nd great depression. I suppose when "the free market" is your religion then a depression isn't a huge deal... just an act of God. To me that was a very high level of crisis that demanded extraordinary action.

Listen we used to argue the opposite sides of this when Bush was in the WH.... you said deficits didn't matter, you said putting Iraq and Afghanistan on the credit card didn't matter. You came really, really late to any criticism of his spending and growing government.
