(a) i do a lot of reading, much of it in the form of pdf files arriving by e-mail (10 files per 24 hours) from all around the world (so arrival time is around the clock, 24 hours per day)
(b) i read a lot e-mails generated by some 15-20 individuals plus 3-6 biz partners and friends (50-70 e-mails per 24 hours)
(c) i write some e-mails in response to any of the above (5-10 e-mails per 24 hours)
(d) much what i read has embedded within links to web material
(c) i generate a lot of work documents, and much of the documents need to be accessible at meetings and during travel times (bus, taxi, plane, boat, train)
my blackberry allows for me to review and respond as necessary 16/7/52
my home desktop allows me to work at desk 6-8/3-4/52 (6-8 hours per day, 3-4 days per week, 52 weeks)
my laptop (geewhizbangohwhoaweeomg apple mac book pro w/ 500 gig solid state drive and windows 7 parallel virtual machine) enables me to work in any of 3 accomodating offices, friends' locales, club, and hotels 6-8/3-4/52
but perhaps 30-50% of my times on the desktop and laptop are times spent reviewing rather than generating docs, and reading rather than writing to file.
the ipad does for me re reading and editing what the blackberry does for me in e-mail communications, that both frees me from my desktop/laptop/office/hoime office times, so that i can attend meetings and accompany kid to the club oand whatever functions without skipping a beat, and that i can easily reference and take notes while at meetings without setting up a laptop regardless of how convenient the laptop is, for the ipad is just like a pad of note paper, except it is one with the known universe.
the ipad allows access to all your working and support files all the time.
even better, between the blackberry and the ipad, we no longer have to pay attention to spouse, thus avoiding the usual bs and maintain peace, so that assets would remain together, and ipad's return on investment so easily justifies the cost.
and for those who have girlfriends, even better, 24/7/52 connection, anywhere anytime, all the time.
best of all, for example, instead of taking a book to the john or a laptop to the balcony, i take my ipad. that is powerful application :0)
