webpilot,
It is certainly true that those of us who post on the VLNC thread tend to be pretty bullish on that company, and I guess it's to be expected. I myself have a bias for the simple reason that I hold a rather substantial position in VLNC but don't own any ULBI.

From reading this thread, it appears that the ULBI production line arrived at the factory only recently. As you know from reading the VLNC thread, their first two lines have undergone fine tuning and testing for many months at their facility, with the third line due to arrive any day now. The lines are reported to be on schedule in terms of readiness as of now. This relative state of affairs is the reason the folks on the VLNC thread expect that company to be the first to enter volume production. So I've been puzzled by the frequently expressed belief on this thread that ULBI will be the first. Could you mention some specifics to support that (besides the fact that they have been making other types of batteries)? I ask this, not as a "them vs. us" question, but out of genuine curiosity.

I hope ULBI will do well, because it will help the market acceptance of this type of battery for all the players, and the potential market is much bigger than these two companies can possibly fill. But it is a difficlult product to make, even in low volume - you may want to read post #1297 on the VLNC thread which references an article on just how difficult it can be to convince potential customers.

Good luck to you all - soon ULBI-powered cellphones will be talking to VLNC-powered ones!
