I fully expect that --- as far as GM goes anyway --- the taxpayers will turn an actual profit on their investment (just as we will on the big banks), though this IPO only sells off enough shares to reduce the government's stake to a minority of the shares... and will have to be followed by secondary share offerings next year to finally get rid of the rest of the shares - hopefully at higher prices.

One thing the IPO does though is put shares out there and allow the public markets to start setting the trading prices.

There a big demand for 'purple miniskirts' is there? (I didn't know... maybe I could invest. <g>)
