Higher growth rates seem to be a key ingredient for any effective solution.

The *only* administration since Jimmy Carter that has seen a statistically significant DECLINE in federal deficits (measured as percentage of national product) and in size of federal government (measured as percentage of total employment in nation) was the Clinton administration --- and the fundamental factor there was a HIGHER RATE OF ECONOMIC GROWTH combined with relative parsimony on government spending (as compared to the preceding two administrations).

So, based on the only success story we have in modern American political/economic history I reckon that restraint on spending combined with pro-growth policies is most likely the only thing that will work for us.
