Chino -
Re the Iraq war - I was also against this war and did not see the wisdom of it.

Re the "removal of combat troops" - I thought you wanted to drop this subject. But as you brought it up I will elaborate. The pullout of combat troops is a political illusion. The troops are doing the same thing that they have been doing for the last year. They are still going on missions to help stabilize the current situation. The article that I linked previously was not a right wing rag but the army times itself and they very clearly articulated what was happening. I also have friends there and know what is happening.

Re- pulling troops out - It was happening with or without O.
The surge that Bush initiated against the wishes of most of the Dems, including Mr. O is the main reason that the insurgency was stabilized, fighting diminished and why we are now able to remove troops. O at least had the wisdom to continue doing what Bush put in motion.

Re - announcing deadlines - This is pure foolishness. Only one benefiting from this is our enemies.

The article you posted understates greatly the effect of the surge. However it does correctly note the future needs for stability to occur.

"A brighter Iraqi future now depends on two unlikely things. A regional modus vivendi must be found that lets Iraq prosper and does not turn it into Tehran and Riyadh’s battling ground; and Iraqi leaders must stop the politics of spoil-splitting, and work to make the country attractive to the professional class – Iraq’s true wealth."

Neil
