My reaction to that post about cars and obesity was that it might be peculiar to Denmark and countries of similar size and culture. You get a mix of shapes and sizes on the Washington Metro trains but on the buses, particularly during the day, I see a disproportionate number of fat people. I suspect that's because it would never occur to most people well off enough to have cars to ride a bus and poverty and obesity correlate strongly. People who can afford cars who live in the city proper either don't have cars or don't drive them much in town. They take taxis or the train.
