Yes, in the US the correlation is strong, I don't know about other places. And "link" may be too strong a term.

But the point is the same -- a mere correlation doesn't tell us much about why things are the way they are. Are the poor obese because they are less educated, because they have less reason to care, because they can't afford the dues at the gym, or any of a thousand other reasons?
