Unlike countries like Germany, we don't make most of the goods that we export. Sure, we may be exporting Dell computers and Apple ipods throughout the world, but since most of them are made in China, the United States loses much of that revenue.

So, maybe on paper, we're big time exporters, but since we don't create here much of what we do export (we make 'em in China, ship 'em back to the US, package them and then ship them to Europe), we lose a lot of money.

We do export a lot of agricultural goods and coal, I will give you that. Unfortunately both don't create many jobs.
