John, now don't take this to much to heart, but you do seem to have a good mind. I believe God gave it to you to be used for His purposes. Yes, I agree our difference is one of approach or view. You wrote, " ...one of approach. My long departed ancestors were at one time in their caves painting animals on the walls in order to define reality..". My long departed ancestors were also painting on the cave walls. Their motive I cannot tell because I was not there. However, I see it as an expression of a way to define the created world around them. This has always been one of mankinds perplexities. Who am I? Where did I come from? What is life all about? What is death? As you expressed in your thread introduction, what about life after death? No doubt about it, your approach is most certainly different from mine. I see God behind the scene moving in man's mind, using these things to draw man to Him. God starts with us at our level of revelation(understanding) and tries to lead us closer to Him. Why? He loves us and wants to be close to us. He desires that we love Him and want to be close to Him. Such an intimate fellowship can only be possible on His terms. He created it all, He sets the rules. Come to Him, let Him love you as a dear child. His love, in the Greek, the original writing, is agape, the greatest love, beyond man's mind to comprehend, you have to experience it.
God loves you, He died for you,
