The Kent Wells blog did highlight three areas he liked including the Monterey Basin area in California, right in my back yard - sort of. New area for me.
From what I see, the major players are OXY (1.2 mil acres)and VQ (350 thou acres).
VQ is unknown to me. But from their recent investor presentation, the Monterey seems to be comparable to the Bakken in ultimate recoverable oil and it may to be easier to recover - no fracing needed. Earthquakes already took care of that.
Looks interesting but I'm can't evaluate VQ very well (EV = 1.56 B). They have some offshore CA wells, and some NG production in Sacramento but the big play in San Joaquin valley.
Anybody looked at VQ?
