"humans know very little about how nature really work"

Exactly, it is academia that swears by these little known as ultimate truths.

For if they admitted that they know little people started asking questions.

Academia would have to come forward with answers on why they had not advanced knowledge more than they actually did?

That would have the effect of throwing the academia game into the open:

--Balkanization of knowledge
one scientist must not invade the province of other group and this is detrimental for knowledge

--Special interest groups
Scientists hired by interest groups

--More recently political correctdeness that accepts scientifically wrong
How much would we know now about races if not for post WW II ban on discussing eugenics?

--Fashion science of the day rages
--Junk science
How much more we would would today if we would not have Global Warming alarmists and Environmentalists?
