Our company designs and creates software for hospital care, and when we solve problems, the doctors are not always 100% sure about the correct references for their explanations.

My favorite examples is, that when we implemented APACHE II, the doctors gave us a reference to the original APACHE II standard. However, that standard uses U.S. measurement units, so it cannot be implemented precisely here.

If you look at APACHE II implementations, I have seen numerous of attempts to convert the APACHE II standard to other units, but I haven't seen any that has been done 100% correct. Therefore, we had to choose between doing a correct translation to local units, or to implement something that matches what others have done. Statistically, the difference is not significant, but there are always people out there who will criticise if our results deviate from the calculations of others. Being a small company, we are very careful about what battles to fight, and fixing the APACHE II translations is not worth fighting for, so we use the calculation formulas that have been approved elsewhere. I think we picked a version from ANZICS in this particular case.
