simon, i'm afraid your sweeping generalizations about the "big boys" and the future of coke are hardly impressive. I would like to see some hard evidence or even some pseudo-data to back up your wild proclamations of doom. I'd like to remind you that the coca cola company is about 90 years old and has survived with continuing frowth during periods when companies like IBM were falling apart and companies like csco weren't yet formed. Technology has an unbecoming way of becoming obsolete. Coke on the other hand has almost become a cultural icon which when introduced to foreign markets has served to represent America or at least the cachet of what it means to be American -- capitalism and prosperity etc. It is the psychological implications of coke which continue to drive it in times, for instance, when a computer purchase is out of sight (Asia). Coke is the 50 cent surrogate for the 5 thousand dollar computer or the 50 thousand dollar car. Coke is the rock upon which the longterm investor builds his portfolio. I and my family before me have owned coke since its invention. It has made me rich and will continue to make others rich because people believe in it the way they believe in freedom of speech. It's valuation is based in part on the intangible ways in which coca cola has become a part of American history. Do I believe you're just sorry you don't own coke at $2.50? You bet.
