I'm not sure this is true. I would depend on how you define "most of the world" as well as on what is "national" insurance. Half the US had "national insurance" when we started down this path under the incompetent leadership of the O-Man.

Don't know if that is true either, but it is believable. Social programs, once enacted, cannot be eliminated. Social Security and Medicare threaten the very existence of the United States, yet it would be political suicide for anyone to do anything about it.

As we just witnessed: The "big" health care overhaul leaves government health care (which provides care for half of Americans) growing without bound.
