A rockfall at the Mount Lyell copper mine in Queenstown has halted production.

In a statement, Copper Mines of Tasmania says the fall happened during blasting early on Saturday morning.

The company says there were no workers in the mine at the time and nobody was injured.

A geotechnical expert and officials from Workplace Standards Tasmania are inspecting the site.

Mill operations are not affected.
