I think, axial, one point where you and I might diverge is with the concept of preparedness. Over the 5-10 year horizon, from my perspective, there is nothing meaningful we can do to cushion the blow, as there simply is no way of replacing $15/bbl oil. Not as energy, not as manufacturing input, not as food-enabler. The Energy Reality Tax is here to stay, for a long time, and all we can do over the next while is fiddle with the marginal effects.

Ok, that's not entirely true, we could do massively dislocating things like turn the entire state of Oregon into a "Three Sisters" hydro facility, but things of that scale are unlikely to be politically or arguably even technically feasible.
