Dear Jane,
Libertarians: Not atheist, believers in the first amendment truly. Not believers in "separation of church and state" but believers in the "freedom of religion". In other words there should not be a state religion. You worship as you please. Perhaps the person who talked to you had the feeling that Libertarians are atheist because so many L. have been turned off by organized religious because of the force involved. The first rule of the libertarian philosophy is no initiation of force or coersive actions.
I'd be glad to send you literature on the philosphy if you like.
Jesus: what do I disagree with:(I'll put one or two, but really, I dont think I should be emphasizing what I disagree with, its too negative. I agree with most. I only said that to show why people in the churches I have attended get disgusted with me and tell me I am "not saved" when I know I am.)
John 14:6 "I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."
I believe He is the way and the truth and the life.I dont believe that noone gets to the Father except through Jesus. Read the last book of the 6 book Narnia chronicles by CSLewis. I think the name is "the last battle". Lewis has the most wonderful picture of Heaven. It is a long beautiful table set with the most delicious food. Everyone who dies is there. However, those who were full of sin are so ashamed and full of guilt that they cannot open their eyes, and believe they are in Hell. Others who loved Buddha, Mohammad, etc etc and so forth have their eyes open and are full of wonder. They say to Aslan the lion (who is God, or Jesus) "oh I didnt realize you were the One" and they are sorry they didnt know, but happy to be accepted into the kingdom.
I like that, and its what I believe. Everyone who is honestly searching, whether or not that person finds Christ, will be saved and in Heaven. (If there is one).
Matthew 5:27. "You have heard that it was said to those of old 'you shall not committ adultery'. But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you, for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish than foryour whole body to be cast into hell."
I cannot accept that the thought is the same as the act. It is most definitely not. Iknow that part of this means simply that your mind should be on holy, and acceptable things, not on unacceptable things, and that as much as possible your thoughts should be monitored. However this passage completely desecrates the marvelous way some people refuse to give in to temptation in spite of truly thinking of doing things and wanting to do things that they know is wrong. they avoid doing the things they wanted to and that is not the same as doing them.
Hope I was clear!

You cannot be free to live life as you choose until you allow others to do that too.
